About TURBOslam Concept Latest News News Archive Hall of Fame Workshops Contact Us Resources Poetry Photos Links Concept The Collective We’re a group of people passionate about words, energy and breaking the boundaries of communication. We are made up of representatives from several Canberra-based creative groups (ANU Writers, UC writers, the ACT Writers’ Centre and multiple renegade theatre groups) and independently have produced plays, magazines, books and amazing events like the sweaty, seething mass of poetry lovin’ known as poetry slams. TURBOslams We’re going to take Canberra’s poetry slams (currently last Friday of the month at The Front Café and Gallery – Lyneham) and shake ‘em up. We’re gonna inject the slams with multimedia, feed them with hip hop, VJ spectacles, beatnik poetry, burlesque performance, [insert your idea] and see what we get. We want to smash the current poetry slam format* and produce something new and utterly unique. We want your crazy ideas, talent and enthusiasm. Be sure to check our news page for details on the next TURBOslam event. *Slam poetry is poetry reading on steroids. Poets perform original material under 3 minutes for glory and cash prizes. It’s competitive, dirty, loud and high octane. Workshops If you’ve ever wanted to perform poetry, but lacked the courage to do it; if you’ve ever wanted to unite diverse art forms and produce something fantastically new, but lacked the venue or cash; if you’ve got something to say, but no way to say it than our poetry slam workshops are for you. Run in collaboration with the TURBOslams, the workshops are your chance to collaborate, create and learn the mystical art of poetry slamming! And best of all - they're absolutely FREE!
